Me neither Steve Martin When choosing between two evils I always pick the one I haven't tried before Mae West There are a number of mechanical devices which increase the sexual arousal of women, a Ferrari is one of them P J O'Rourke A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove you don't need it Bob Hope All I ask is a chance to prove that money won't make me happy Spike Milligan A secret is something that is only repeated to one person at a time Robert McCrum |

Re:QUOTES Date Posted:2026-05-29 09:45:54Copy HTML Well Major, you can't "rojer" the willing, & it does lead to a pleasant release of the tension after a long night shift in the cramped squad car solving the problems of citizens who brought them on themselves. |

Re:QUOTES Date Posted:2026-06-06 08:59:42Copy HTML I’ve not picked a book up in about three years now. I used to devour them and sometimes sit in an armchair look at my watch and think I’ve only got about five hours to read and then I’ve got to go, alas not anymore. I suppose the Internet is just too easy. You see, I was never one for novels, I only read factual books and that is probably the reason why the Internet has taken over. 1 million facts at the touch of a button what more could you want? |

Re:QUOTES Date Posted:2026-06-06 11:22:20Copy HTML The same thing happened to me, Major. It was Covid did it for me. We transitioned from library books, because the library was closed, to Kindle books too easily. The internet is useful for a lot of information gathering for sure.

Re:QUOTES Date Posted:2026-06-07 05:32:06Copy HTML Novels are my thing, factual books for dipping into for facts. Don't look at me askance but at the moment I'm reading The Queen of Love by a long forgotten author the Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould (he who wrote Onward Christian Soldiers). It's not as slushy as it sounds, quite funny, set in the salt manufacturing district of Cheshire, not far from either Art and myself. Over the years I have to say that my taste is for Victorian sensationist fiction. Shula did you ever get round to The Nebuly Coat either in print or on Librivox? You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:QUOTES Date Posted:2026-06-24 11:53:20Copy HTML I haven’t looked at any census but I do have the deeds. The land that these two houses here are built on belonged to the Methodist church, which was a wooden building about 40 yards away. They knocked it down and built a new brick one in the village. We have two local churches. I should get the deeds out and have another look because I didn’t look at them much before my wife put them away for good keeping, you understand. I remember that’s one of the long-standing family names from this area owned it for years to house farm working families. On two occasions in the past I have noticed people stood outside the front staring at the place and went out to talk to them because I knew that they were going to say…. I used to live here and they did, the one thing they always remember firstly about the place was how cold it was. When we bought the house, we did not live in it for 12 months because that’s how long it took to renovate the place. I should have sued the surveyor who missed just about every fault with the house itwas possible to miss. I knew it was bad, I was in the building trade after all, but I chose to ignore it ever every time I looked out of the front window across open pasture land. We also face west and when I saw some of the utterly spectacular sunsets, nothing was going to put me off. We moved out and it took one years work before we moved back in. The lane goes in a half circle and connects to villages. When we arrived, I could wander up the lane for an hour or two and no cars ever passed me, now? It has become a bit of a rat run and the amount of crashes on the lane in the last 10 years are ridiculous. |
