Date Posted:2022-06-06 11:16:50Copy HTML June 6, 1944 D-Day Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy by Allied forces. The honor of the opening salvo unleashed upon the German occupiers was given to HMS Belfast. Once the allied troops gained control of the beaches it was all over for the evil Nazis. Facing the Allies in the west & the Russians in the east it was only a matter of time. Live respected, die regretted

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2023-10-01 01:56:49Copy HTML They attend from all over Britain Tom. I have a neighbour in the village who's an American football fanatic and can often be seen walking his dog past my house in his wannabe American gear. |

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2023-10-01 02:59:08Copy HTML It seemed like the majority of the crowd burst into song with your National Anthem. Very different from over here where ours is accompanied by kneeling or silence. |

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2023-10-01 04:57:00Copy HTML Beautiful day in the neighborhood, 72 degrees, bright sunshine, sitting on the deck enjoying a cigar & watching the turkey vultures circling the field. Must be something dead out there as they feed on carrion. They have keen eyesight & sense of smell & can fly almost endlessly on the air currents. Add mother nature has used her paint brush with the trees turning gorgeous colors. |

The Mayor was also late in passing on warning about the chances of flooding happening which didn't help the situation. |

Toronto which is only 75 kms. roughly 28 miles south of me is usually a week or two behind us with the colours. The Lake Ontario water being warm may be the cause of that. |

As for autumn, you can have it, cold, wet, dull and just death and destruction on a galactic scale. Give me spring every time. And talking of birds coming and going, we got a huge arrival of Partridges just now, more than I've ever seen here. |

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2023-10-02 03:05:17Copy HTML Roughly 500 years ago.
Pockets invented. Before that there were purses which were carried by men & women alike & contained small sundries. They were strapped on top of or under their togas, dresses, or armor. Then came pockets which changed the world. Pockets altered reading habits, thieves' tactics, the spread of pistols & a place for men to put their hands. Free people had pockets, slaves did not, women at first did not have pockets to limit their ability to carry $ & spend it without their husband's approval. Later tight-fitting clothes made pockets unthinkable for women, but now having pockets is not limited to class or gender. Equality at last. |

John Duns Scotus born in Scotland. Franciscan priest & philosopher who believed that wearing a high pointed hat when studying enabled brain waves from the top of one's head to flow down & increase knowledge & retention. His followers known as "Dunsman" wore them & ironically in later years the high pointed hat became an example of just the opposite & the "Dunce" cap was born. |

So your burning bush is dark red Pete, how are your onions? Most all the local vegetables have already been picked Tommy but there is still potatoes, corn and soy bean in the ground. I haven't been for a drive around the marsh this year but I imagine the onions are laying out in rows to dry before collecting and crating. Of course with all of the harvesting going on prices have dropped at the grocery stores. Pumpkins have turned orange and are on all the shelves for the Halloween rush. Our Thanksgiving this year is Monday, October 9. Have you treated yourself to watching Canadian Football this year yet? |
