FDR signs Executive Order 9066 which orders the internment of 112,000 Japanese/Americans to 10 camps. Mostly from the West Coast of the U.S. & thought to be sympathetic to Japanese interests.

Referencing your post about the 1903 theatre fire, Tom, I wonder if that sparked the idea to make yelling "FIRE" in  crowded space a crime if there is no fire?

Could be Shula, along with doors that opened both ways, asbestos curtains, fire extinguishers, etc. "Sparked" the idea, eh? I love double entendres.

The big theatre fire over here that led to new safety rules was the Exeter Theatre Royal Fire in 1887, 186 died.

I've never been fond of movie theatres anyway; still, I find it curious that safety hazards weren't thought of much earlier.
