Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2026-07-13 12:18:25Copy HTML Postage stamps are ridiculously expensive over here and delivery not as good as it should be. The Royal Mail prioritizes parcels over letters as they bring in more revenue. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2026-07-14 05:24:34Copy HTML The same here. Now they're planning no more letter deliveries on a Saturday and every second day for 2nd class letters. No reduction in price though despite the reduction in service. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2026-07-14 05:33:41Copy HTML We did in 1969, Labour plans to reduce it to 16, as it is in Scotland and Wales for their local and Assembly elections. Left wing governments think teenagers are more likely to vote for them. Left wing governments are right, they do, especially young lads. As the saying goes, young, dumb and full of cum. They are going to sort out the world, as soon as they sort out their bank overdraft. Been there, done that. |

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2026-07-14 09:03:43Copy HTML I agree with lowering the voting age to 18. If you're old enough to be sent to war, you're old enough to have a say in who sent you there. Sixteen? No. In many cases, 16-year-olds can't even be charged as adults in criminal prosecutions.

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2026-07-14 11:15:52Copy HTML I remember celebrating Bastille Day one year when the kids were small. I thought it was important for their cultural upbringing to learn about other countries' holidays. Tiny doll heads in tiny baskets at the French Toast breakfast table didn't raise the patriotic spirit like father's 4th of July fireworks, though. But today I am thinking of Dr. Manet. I just finished making a tiny pair of high heel shoes for a 10 1/2" vintage teen fashion doll. My Sydney Carton would have said I was crazy. "It is forbidden to spit on cats in plague-time."

Berlin Airlift when U.S. & RAF planes landed in Berlin some 250,000 times carrying tons of supplies to the city blockaded by Soviet forces. The Russian's intent was to force the Allies out of Berlin by blocking all land & water access. It failed to accomplish that, but it did succeed in not starting another European war which was the end result. There were some 60 fatalities among the air crews mostly from bad weather or mechanical failures. |

Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2026-07-15 09:47:33Copy HTML We'll stay well clear from the socialist madhouse, or should, as the nation voted for. People say, we can't do this, we can't do that, that's because the vindictive dwarfs of the regime, all lefty's of course, can't control us anymore. The EU is the most hideous bureaucratic, none functional madhouse of the planet. Virtually every one of the member's economies are in decline. If you had their collection of rule books dropped on you you would be crushed to death. It's the greatest gravy train on earth, for bureaucrats. Why does Starmer want to rejoin? Because it suits his political ambitions to the letter, control control control. |
