Radical Republicans in congress pass the Reconstruction Act which denotes 5 military districts in the defeated Confederate States of America. In 1876 Rutherford Hayes elected POTUS with a promise to end military occupation in all of the districts. |

Between August 1655 and January 1657 England and Wales were divided into ten regions each governed by a Major General answerable to the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell, in effect a military government. Operation Ajax when the CIA & MI6 overthrew Iran's democratically elected P.M. Mohammad Mossadegh & installed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi for 26 years. The real reason was Mossadegh nationalized Iran's oil industry which was controlled by Great Britain & U.S. oil companies. The reason given was to quell Soviet influence in the region. The puppet Shah ruled Iran for 26 years before being overthrown in 1979 by the Islamic Revolution & the result is what we have today.
