Maiden flight of the Westland Wyvern, a turboprop single seat carrier-based aircraft that served in the RN during the early Cold War. Saw combat during the Suez crisis & retired from service in 1958. |

Brehon Laws govern medieval Ireland. Deeply rooted in oral tradition replaced by English Common Law. The major difference was Common Laws were centralized in the crown, & Behon Laws were communal. |

The Sneyd Colliery Disaster 1 January 1942. 57 coal miners killed in an underground explosion at the Sneyd Colliery in Burslem. There is a memorial to those killed in the centre of Burslem.
