FDR signs Executive Order 9066 which orders the internment of 112,000 Japanese/Americans to 10 camps. Mostly from the West Coast of the U.S. & thought to be sympathetic to Japanese interests.

December 12, 1946 Maiden flight of the Westland Wyvern, a turboprop single seat carrier-based aircraft that served in the RN during the early Cold War. Saw combat during the Suez crisis & retired from service in 1958.

Sixth Century Brehon Laws govern medieval Ireland. Deeply rooted in oral tradition replaced by English Common Law. The major difference was Common Laws were centralized in the crown, & Behon Laws were communal.

Tragic fire in a bar in Switzerland yesterday, around 40 killed. Other New Year's Day disasters include one noy far from where I live.

The Sneyd Colliery Disaster 1 January 1942. 57 coal miners killed in an underground explosion at the Sneyd Colliery in Burslem. There is a memorial to those killed in the centre of Burslem.

the amalgamation of Westland to another company was the first nail in Thatcher’s political coffin. Michael Heseltine wanted an amalgamation with the Italians and Thatcher wanted an amalgamation with the Yanks
