May 3, 1942

FDR signs Executive Order 9066 which orders the internment of 112,000 Japanese/Americans to 10 camps. Mostly from the West Coast of the U.S. & thought to be sympathetic to Japanese interests.

January 27, 1944 Soviet forces liberate Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz, Poland. Today, January 27, 2024, is Holocaust Remembrance Day.

I took the time while in Europe to visit 3 of the camps. Bergen-Belsen, Dachau and the one in France not far across the border from where I lived was called Struthof.

Dachau and Struthof were still intact but Belsen was only raised mounted as the British burned it to the ground to try and stop the spread of disease at wars end.

If you go on google and search there are still modern picture of both Dachau and Struthof France with every thing from dissecting tables to gas chambers to gallows with hangman noose and all original. All the same things I seen while there in the early 70's.

Crematorium building at Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp, Bas ...

After the camps were liberated, many of the homosexual survivors were not set free, but sent to prison. This due to laws against homosexuality at the time. I have never read that before & this was from another site. Dunno about the accuracy.

See related image detail. Villa (kommandantur Building) in a Concentration Camp (struthof) in ... This was the camp guards Gasthof at Struthof which was right across from the gas chamber and ovens. The ovens were much larger at Dachau and Auschwitz. Struthof was used manly for getting rid of political opponents. Out of sight out of mind if you know what I mean.

1896 Walter Arnold drove his automobile 8 mph in Paddock Wood Kent. The constable chased him for 5 miles on his bicycle and issued the very first speeding ticket. The speed limit was 2 mph.

Now their main highways are like the 401 but they still drive on the wrong side of the road. Thought at one time they could change to the same as the rest of Europe but I think that saying holds, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Look how much would be saved if all cars were built the same and North America would buy a lot more of their cars. Even with that though, Shula would still drive in the centre of the road like she does now, poor dear

Horse carriages controlled by reigns with driver always on the right side of the vehicle. That is the origin of the Limeys driving on the wrong side of the road????

That's why only a few of their cars still have rear drive and the ones that do have to drive backward.

Victorian Era A captain & crew of an RN ship were invited to visit the Queen. The captain decided to order special matching jackets without tails for the occasion. They arrived for the meeting in blue jackets with brass buttons sans tails which was very unusual for the times. This jacket style became very popular & it was named after the ship...............HMS "Blazer."
