It started out as "Armistice Day" after the end of WWI. In 1954 Congress passed the bill to change it to "Veteran's Day" to honor all military. The bill was signed into law by President Eisenhower. |

Poor people collected their urine in a "piss pot" to later be sold to tanneries. People too poor to own such a pot did "not have a pot to piss in." |

The cheapest form of accommodation was a series of ropes where you hung your arms over & fell asleep. For the night it cost a penny & was a favorite way for drunken sailors to sleep it off after spending all their money in pubs. That is the origin of the term "hangover." |

The Philadelphia Zoo opens. It is the oldest zoo in the U.S. London Zoo opened in 1828 as a scientific site, the public were admitted in 1847. I like zoos. |

NYC had a claim to that honor but was dismissed as not being a real zoo but more of a menagerie. Buffalo has a wonderful zoo that I have visited hundreds of times in my sunny slopes of yesteryear days. My last visit to a zoo was about twenty years ago in Boise, Idaho. |

Canada legalized medical assistance for the terminally ill (MAID) & have expanded it in 2021 to include those with incurable but non-fatal conditions under a condition called Track 2. Many of these are poor people suffering from lack of social supports & loneliness, & mental illness. Society has an obligation to help them & not nudge them to an early death via assisted suicide.

I could watch gibbons for hours. |
