Could be overreaction of course but it's reported that members of the Royal Family are gathering at Balmoral where the Queen is said to be "under medical supervision".

He's unlikely to come, the Chinese are still petrified of covid and live with a stupid mask on all day, he'll not risk mixing in a crowd of thousands.

The funeral on Monday is expected to attract the largest gathering of political and Royal dignitaries ever, what a testimony to the Queen.

What strikes me too are the huge crowds at the Lying in State. At the moment if you join the queue it's an estimated 22 hours before you get to Westminster Hall. We see people lining up in an orderly, very British fashion; they're laughing and joking at times more like a queue at Alton Towers. but when you see their faces when facing the coffin it's quite different. All of them appear either overcome with sorrow or wonderment at the sight. Amazing.

He retains the rank of Vice-Admiral but needed the King's permission to wear the uniform today.

The Queen's eight grandchildren will stand vigil tomorrow, it'll be an ordeal for the younger ones, two of them are still in their teens.

I see the Canadian Military is showing up along with the RCMP. The only Province not sending anyone is Quebec.

I watched the grandchildren standing there today. They did well.

You can't take food or drink into the viewing so a young person with a head on her shoulders was collecting it and then giving it to the food banks so it wouldn't be wasted. It will for sure will be the biggest funeral ever.

It's the big day today, I can't say what state I'll be in at the end of it.

For all the talk of GB's decline, and there's no denying it, it's gratifying to see that we're the centre of world attention today with the largest gathering of leaders ever seen, who else would command such a turnout.

Yes all true Tommy.

When I meet the Queen of England and her husband Phillip.
It was a hot summer day in Ottawa and I had to drive into Base Uplands to pick up the Sqn OC who was coming in by commercial plane. I had all the canvas door and windows off both side of the jeep. Traffic both ways was very slow and there is also helicopters flying overhead. I glance to my left and take a double take because facing me is the Queen of England. I was going to step out the driver's side and give her a proper salute but if I had, my nose would have been up against her window. We were that close. Her security probably would have shot me.. She is watching me all the time so I give her an eyes right sitting down, and a salute. She nods her head back to me and smiles and then Philip who is on her right of her leans forward with a smile on his face and I salute him also.
What was the Queen and Prince Phillip doing there you might ask. They were there for the opening of the 1973 Olympics Games and I was there doing security for it..

The tradition & pageantry are unparalleled. Question, why are the R.N. pulling the casket with lines attached?

The Queen’s coffin is lead lined and built of English oak, the hardest oak of them all. It was made thirty years ago by a company that does not exist anymore. They made three exactly the same, Prince Philip has one, the Queen the second and Jimmy Hendrix is in the third.

It dates back to Queen Victoria’s funeral when the horses pulling her coffin got spooked and nearly tipped her off so they apparently unhooked them and the navy present took over and towed her. Churchill had sailors tow him but that was his own wish as he always considered himself a naval man, even though he served in the army and always signed his correspondence to Roosevelt….. Former Naval Person

So at Queen Victoria's funeral it was an impromptu thing?

Yes it was an impromptu decision suggested at the time by Prince Louis Mountbatten to Edward Vll, he agreed and the sailors took over. They had to find ropes and connect them as best as they could.

The service is presently in St George’s Chapel Windsor. I’ve been in there twice and it’s magnificent. It’s in the English perpendicular style but what makes St George’s different from the other cathedrals of the same style is the delicacy of the construction. Even though it’s a huge building it’s like the builders made everything at half size. The carvings, the pillars, the ornamentation is all much more delicate than any other church of its kind. The houses in the grounds of Windsor, which surround part of the building are over 400 years old but look as though they were built last week.

Incredible. Back to present, one of the announcers on T.V. said of the Queen's funeral, "everything is done on British military time, to the minute."

The symbolic removal from her coffin of her crown, sceptre and orb, the manifestation of her office has taken place and she’s being lowered to the royal vault where she will join other monarchs, including Henry Vl who died in 1472. Very sad.

Incredible, stupendous, the whole thing from beginning to end. And need I add flawless.

The Royal Navy ratings pulling the gun carriage, as you say, dates back to 1901 and has become a feature of Monarchs' funerals ever since. The gun carriage is the same one from 1901 which the Royal Navy refused to hand back to the Army, so it was formally awarded to them to keep and maintain.

Interestingly the coffin was lowered into the Royal Vault, but later today it will be raised again and carried to the King George VI Memorial Chapel above ground where it'll lie with her parents, husband and sister. This will be carried out in private around 1930 our time.
