Could be overreaction of course but it's reported that members of the Royal Family are gathering at Balmoral where the Queen is said to be "under medical supervision".

If it is her time to go, I hope she has an easy time of it.

I totally agree. I hope that it is peaceful and that she is not in any pain.

During the course of my Diana fetish, I learned from Mark that the royal standard is never lowered upon a royal's death. Mark inadequately explained the reasoning as it would be a half-staff more than full. This forced me to launch an investigation of my own & the results learned are...........the royal standard is never lowered because the monarchy is perpetual.

Precisely. The Crown passes immediately upon the death of the previous Monarch, as it did when George VI died in his sleep, no-one knew Elizabeth was Queen until several hours later.

She's been there my entire life and now she's gone and it's a hard thing to get your head around. I fear that Charles will now take the throne and by the time he's gone the monarchy might just follow him. He's not made of the right stuff,. his father knew that well and he's got fluffy bunny ideas that will destroy the institution. All Kings and Queens have the title of defender of the faith, the faith being Church of England Protestants but Charlie boy has previously announced that he wants to be Defender of Faiths, plural, because he's already flirted with Islam. Some once thought he had privately converted and I wouldn't put it passed the clown. There is only one way the monarchy can survive and that's by the modern intervention of William and Kate, two people who would be welcomed with open arms, a modern, lively, none political example of an ordinary modern family.

She has been Queen for as long as I can remember, it will be odd without her for sure. I guess it will be King Charles III.

We all knew this day would come but it's the most horrible shock. And yet nothing has changed which is the beauty of our democracy.

The biggest star in the world has gone.

Did you see Trump talking about her? He asked her who was her favourite President and she replied... I liked them all. Trump responded, yes, but who was your favourite? She said agin, I liked them all. He then asked her who was her favourite PM and she said, I liked them all. You'll get nowt out of Lizzie. I know she adored Churchill and I think she certainly had a soft spot for Ronnie Regan.

Her end was mercifully quick, only two days ago she was photographed - a smiling old lady- appointing Liz Truss as her 15th Prime Minister.

This is President Trump's Gab post.

4h

"Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief.

Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women.

Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!

Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the great people of the United Kingdom as you honor her most meaningful life and exceptional service to the people.

May God bless the Queen, may she reign forever in our hearts, and may God hold her and Prince Philip in abiding care."

And now begins the great swap over and it's going to take some doing and some getting used to. The monarchy is a thread that runs through almost every facet of British life. Their head is one our currency and postage stamps, QC's will now become KC's. Masses of ceremonial regalia, which has EllR on it will change to ClllR. If I'm not mistaken the King's crown is different from the Queens, so millions of future items, such as post boxes, copper's helmets, masses of military items etc will now have the King's crown on them and this isn't going to be done overnight.

Yes, stamps can be produced pretty quickly but coins will take longer. Edward VIII reigned for 11 months and no coins were put into general circulation at all, but stamps were.

I don't mind admitting that I'm utterly distraught at this news, short of deaths within close family the passing of the Queen will be the most traumatic for most Brits. It's as if the very foundations on which we stand have shaken, but we'll go on of course with our new King Charles III.

This is the picture I tried to post earlier, our new King.
