Could be overreaction of course but it's reported that members of the Royal Family are gathering at Balmoral where the Queen is said to be "under medical supervision".

Apparently it’s going to be the first state funeral in several decades, which makes Churchill’s the last one. It’s going to be quite a show for all the wrong reasons but quite a show nonetheless, as we know how to put on these kind of pageants better than anybody

Remember the story I posted a few weeks ago about the missing Scottish Crown Jewels discovered in a walled-up room in 1818 111 years after being locked away? Well the Crown is the one you can see on the Queen's coffin in Edinburgh today.

All About Crown on Queen Elizabeth's Coffin in Scotland

At the time of your posting the Scottish crown looked "pale" compared to the English one. It still does.

It's a relief that we've got through to Charles III, so many European Monarchies have ended with a someone entitled "the Second", at least we haven't ended with another "Second".

Monarchies that have been abolished with a King (insert name here) the Second are Germany, Russia, Italy, Greece,Portugal, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria.

A thing of the past, Mark. Charles spent 70 years being a brat & now he has to step up to wear the big shoes of King. His is most likely the end of the British monarchy as we now know it.

A more modern Monarchy yes, no bad thing perhaps? And the task of modernization will be taken further by Prince William when his time comes. No reason for the institution to collapse just yet.

Watching the huge funeral procession for the Queen on the way to Westminster Hall. The precision & unity of the marchers is amazing to see, especially in some of the older members which leads to a question. What would happen if one of them flopped over? Would the rest just step over him & carry on? Would the procession stop & first-aid be administered? Would it depend on the status of the "flopper?"

Interesting question. I suspect if Charlie keeled over the parade would probably mark time until they got him to his feet. If a soldier collapsed, they would just walk around him. It was quite a show and it’s good to see everything went off right, as you never know if some nutter would try to make a name for themselves or their god of course.

If a similar event happened over here we would be anticipating gunshots to ring out. On that topic, now that schools are open we can expect some more mass shootings.

The Queen's Lying in State is expected to attract up to 750,000 people with queues around 10 miles long. Outside North Korea where it would be compulsory no other world leader would attract such a turnout.

Westminster Hall where she is lying in State is an amazing structure. Built in 1097 it was then the largest single space in the world. It originally had pillars holding up the roof but a new roof was erected in 1393 without anything holding it up; that roof, 240 ft by 68 ft, is the one we see today.

It was the scene of the trials of William Wallace in 1305, Guy Fawkes in 1606 and King Charles I in 1649 being the most famous. Later it was the setting for the Coronation Banquets.

There is an amazing one in Winchester Cathedral. Closer to home there is an old council building in Warrington, where I live, that was turned into a Italian restaurant and it has a wonderful hammer beam roof. A hell of a building for a meal.

As the Queen's coffin was being paraded on the streets of London some attention has been brought to the royal crown on display on top of it. The royal crown contains the Second Star of Africa diamond which was mined in South Africa in 1905 & is worth $400 million. Given the evil history of British colonialism the darkies are clamoring for the Brits to return it. The Brits claim it was a gift to King Edward VII in 1907.

pressure from the White House mafia would have brought that about. They know quite well that Biden would be trampled to death by world leaders trying to get to Trump. People forget that the Don is half British and could hold a British passport if he wished. We’re once more going to be subjected to the 50 or more usual knuckleheads and bullies of the US security services, talking to their sleeves and elbowing everyone in sight. We have a wonderful dementia programme over here and maybe braindead could take advantage of it whilst here, if he knows he’s here

It's a form of mass hysteria. We're all affected by it to a greater or lesser extent, if you mix with people who are genuinely overcome it becomes infectious, you take on some of their grief and feel it yourself. Also watching it on TV brings out emotion as sad music can push you over the edge, I confess It's done that to me.

I'm unsure about protests, I suppose a peaceful demonstration with a placard or such like is OK, but calling out or attempting to disrupt events is going too far under the circumstances. The public will deal with anyone behaving in such a manner.

Yes poor Biden is overlooked no ignored when Obama is there. Trump's mother is from Scotland but his extravagance must come from his father's side. The Scots are "thrifty" eh?

I saw a list of invited and not-invited dignitaries.  The story about Pres. Trump not being invited to the funeral was designed as click bait of course, but I wanted to see what it said, coming on the heels of an article that said Biden could decide whether or not Trump could go.  The article described the incredible number of people who would be attending and the decision was made to limit the number of people invited from each country.  Some countries were told they could only send an ambassador and some could send their president or head of state.

Unbelievable! I hear Jin Ping Tiddle Hi Ho, the Chink dictator in chief has received an invite to the Queen's funeral. Maybe he can bring along China's latest pandemic with him and put it on trial? Do our politicians know just what this barbaric commie regime is up to in the world? Why don't they ask Tibet or Hong Kong for instance? Here we have a truly malignant, cruel, destructive regime, rotten to the core, infiltrating every western establishment with money and spies to undermine everything we hold sacred, we know it, they know it, yet they get an invite? Quite frankly this is an insult to the Queen and I know people think trade comes first but never at any price, surely? We shouldn't be prostituting ourselves to Chinese interests, Feck'em off.
