Is that the way America wants to go, executions the public can watch? I thought that kind of thing was dropped many years ago? It's what they do in the barbaric countries we like to think ourselves better than.

NY State law was changed in 2019 which basically forced private religious schools to enforce public health mandates. This was done because of a measles outbreak & now there is another measles outbreak in our Mennonite/Amish community. Fines are $2,000 per violation/per day which has resulted in total fines across three small rural schools $118,000. Of course, this will wind up in court as a direct legal and religious standoff over whether a state can force private religious schools to enforce public health mandates against their own faith.

That will be an interesting situation to watch.  The Amish communities aren't treated the same as the Native Americans, though, are they?  By that i mean exempted from some federal things like taxes.  It'll be sticky in any case what with our separation of church and state  requirements.  I wish I had access to the weeds.

The Amish do not pay into Social Security or Medicare/Medicaid. But they do not use any of those programs either. The church takes care of them. There are a lot of them in my area & I occasionally drive for them. They are a boon to the community in my opinion.

I’ve not seen the Amish, but I have seen the Mennonites, or what I called them, men at night but women during the day. Oooo a little gruesome to say the least.

About now my sister and her husband are due to fly out from Tokyo to Honolulu. They leave Japan late on Saturday night and arrive in Hawaii before lunch on Saturday, that must mess up your body clock!

Most flights are pleasant and relaxing until you're on one when the stewardess comes by with the cocktail cart and your five-year-old loudly proclaims "Mommy, you better not drink any more of that booze".

In France, Philipe Deier a former MP and successful entrepreneur. in Western France, he’s built a huge theme park, with no rides. it is a museum of French history with hundreds of artefacts and actors reenacting historical French scenes from history. it is hugely popular. he wants to spend 600 million building the equivalent in Britain. it will depict British history from Roman times, including all historical events and strides in science and technology. naturally it has its left-wing detractors who are more interested in mass apologetic, grovelling than achievements in science and technology. His museum or theme park if you like covers French history warts and all, we must presume it will do the same with British history. Kids are raised in school today without being taught anything positive about this country, maybe this would change their minds, show them there are two sides to every story and show that every Third World country on earth depends upon the scientific and medical achievements of Britain. I suspect the site of this kind of theme park will have to be heavily protected from left-wing lunacy.

An interesting idea, although every aspect of British history is covered in a wide variety of museums all over the country if people are prepared to travel to see them. Even my home town has opened one, or rather a Heritage Centre which is code for something not quite big enough to call itself a museum. If they want a decent exhibit I could loan them my (allegedly) Peter de Wint watercolour.

A centralized museum sounds nice to me (kind of like "We Did Not Start the Fire").  It would be most helpful for the tourists genuinely interested in your history but lack the time to travel.  Most museums can consume a day easily.  Students, too, would benefit.

I have been inundated recently on facebook with AI videos of historical figures who start out as children and tell their story, then you guess who they are. I have to confess I love them. I've even guessed some of them correctly.

It seems to get easier every day to date myself, Tom.  My elder filter is getting weak.

From what I can see almost every small town in the USA has a Heritage Center (I'll use that spelling this time) or Museum.

That's correct, Mark.  I do think every small town has its history housed somewhere.  Of course, where I live, there are many Civil War Museums.

Opening lines are very important I think.  Two of my favorite short ones are:  "Call me Ishmael." and "My mother died today."
