Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-23 01:26:49Copy HTML CVN-81 is the new U.S. Navy carrier currently under construction & scheduled to be named Doris Miller after the black male mess attendant who was aboard the battleship West Virginia during the Jap attack on Pearl Harbor. For his heroic actions during the sneak attack & later during WWII he was a nominee for the Medal of Honor & did win the Navy Cross. He was killed in action in 1943 at Kiribati, Kiribati.
BUT WAIT-Reports are that decision makers in the U.S. Navy are now considering naming the new nuclear carrier after Donald Trump instead. Imagine that? |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-23 08:04:21Copy HTML Yes normally. They called him Dorie. He joined the Navy when Negroes were only assigned mess duties. That's cooking stuff for you land lubbers. His actions were featured in the movie Pearl Harbor when he manned an anti-aircraft gun during the attack. He had no training for, but the gunner was either killed or disabled. He was killed in action later on in the war. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-24 03:51:37Copy HTML Jinny Lu, a pug, was crowned the "World's Ugliest Dog" after her fourth attempt at the crown. She is a rescue dog from South Korea & was destined for the meat trade. Now to my belated point. Some years ago, a Chinese woman applied for membership to our little group. I asked her a question........"Do you eat dogs?" That was the end of her application & we never heard from her again. I was severely chastised by Mark for my accurate, inconsiderate remark & now I demand an apology. Those Asians all eat dogs & the Chinese applicant to our little group was a Commie spy. Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-24 05:54:57Copy HTML I wouldn't ask a recently joined American if they were overweight and ignorant of affairs outside the USA, it would be thoughtless. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-24 06:10:56Copy HTML Visited the oldest house in Stoke-on-Trent today - Ford Green Hall, a yeoman farmer's house. The centre block in black and white dates from 1624, the two wings were added a century later. Very good inside, lots of dark wood panelling and period displays, Shula would have been at home in the kitchen I think. An interesting feature is what's carved above what was the original front door (today it's inside a later porch) RAPHE SUTTON CARPENTER.. An early advertisement? If you display my name over your door for people to see my handiwork I'll give you a discount?

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-24 06:27:51Copy HTML Strictly speaking Jacobean as it dates from the Stuart period in the 17th century. But as north Staffordshire was not the most fashionable area (still isn't) it held on to outdated styles. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-08-24 10:44:17Copy HTML I had to look up pictures of Jacobean kitchens and yes, Mark, you are so right. I love that style and I have the herbs to fill the windowsills.
