Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-21 12:52:12Copy HTML My interest in antiques has gone up a notch. I've just taken delivery of a gorgeous watercolour by Peter de Wint (look him up) who was born in my home town in 1784. The second largest collection of his works is held at the Yale Center for British Art. Lincoln Art Gallery over here has the largest. The Dutch just love to paint. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-21 10:30:45Copy HTML Congratulations on your acquisition, Mark. What is the theme? I see landscapes, houses, animals and many other scenes. I like his work.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-22 01:56:14Copy HTML A worker dropped dead at the Amazon warehouse in Oregon. The rest of the work force claimed they were ordered by supervisors to work around the deceased for more than an hour before his body was removed. Amazon confirmed the death & claimed misinformation about the continuance of work and added they are deeply saddened. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-22 02:07:31Copy HTML A new biography of Bobby Kennedy Jr. our current health secretary revealed that while driving with his wife & kids in 2001, he stopped & sliced off the genitals of a dead racoon. A typical Kennedy family outing. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-22 05:25:09Copy HTML Congratulations on your acquisition, Mark. What is the theme? I see landscapes, houses, animals and many other scenes. I like his work. A Road Scene With Bridge and Figures is the official description. If you go to Spender Fine Art > Artists > Peter de Wint it's there marked as sold. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-22 11:12:43Copy HTML Price of fuel is through the roof in Ireland causing farmers & truckers to protest by blocking roads, ports, & Ireland's only oil refinery with tractors & trucks. This causing the P.M. to unleash the police & military to clear things up causing further unrest. So, the price of fuel is going up & to protest this the Irish effectively shut down their only refinery? Well, they are Irish. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-22 12:27:44Copy HTML One good thing has come of this - Trump has killed off the love affair between the Irish and Americans. The English aren't quite as bad as they once thought. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-22 09:27:36Copy HTML The site you sent me to, Mark, allowed for close-ups of your watercolour. I love the detail, right down to the ripples in the water where the dog is taking a drink. That was a wonderful find.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-23 07:47:06Copy HTML It was surprisingly "cheap" because the dealer says it's faded a little, but looks fine to me. Plus there's no actual date or signature to confirm it's a de Wint. However it was first sold at auction in 1876 as a de Wint and exhibited in 1945 as such. There's a plaque on a shop in my local High Street stating that he was born there in 1784. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-23 08:46:32Copy HTML You can have it confirmed by at experts, but this would cost a great deal of money |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-23 10:17:27Copy HTML The Spanish currency was the single Real. Another coin was introduced called the Reales, which was worth eight times as much, which the English called the peace of eight. When the Spanish got to South America, they found plenty of silver to make new coins out of, which they named the peso, which meant unit of weight of the silver. Because they were silver, they were often cut up into eight bits, so if you paid for something with two of them, it would be two bits or a quarter. Meanwhile in Bavaria in the town of Joachimstal their currency became known as a Joachimstaler or Dalder in Scandinavia or a Daler in the Netherlands and the English bastardised it to dollar. In Britain’s North American colony, following the revolution, the government wanted to get rid of the pound because of its old British connection and so introduced a new one based on the average weight of a Spanish dollar and also known as a dollar, a US dollar. The Spanish sign for a dollar is a P with a little S protruding from the top of it, a very strange symbol. It was that little S which was separated from the P and adopted for the American dollar. |

The jingle goes like this................Shave & a haircut, two bits. And my old high school football cheer covers it all............Two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar, all for Riverside stand up & holler. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-24 05:45:30Copy HTML The Epsom gang rape story has been confirmed as false, no rape, no offence, no immigrant rape gang. The woman, say the police, suffered an accidental head injury and made a "confused report". Too easy for those with an agenda to get hysterical about immigrant crime without checking facts. Some stories just don't ring true and this was one of them. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Some stories just don't ring true and this was one of them. From what I saw posted here, the time frame was way off. That always draws suspicion from investigators. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-24 08:31:35Copy HTML You must be very happy with yourself. Seems there was no rape in Epson however three men, illegal immigrants were found guilty yesterday or gang raping a woman on Brighton Beach. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2026-04-24 09:47:43Copy HTML Apropos of nothing: I germinated an apple seed using the cold stratification method. Eleven days post planting, it's already two inches tall.
