One for Pete. Britain has just showcased its new Challenger 3 tank, the first tank in the world that can operate without a crew. It also showcases a new kind of armour. All tanks in the world use the Chobham armour, which was invented here but this new tank has now gone one better than Chobham.

Is it controlled or operated from a distance Art? Such as a drone would be. The first drone style vehicle I ever seen was used for bomb detection and disposal in the military. It was on an long extension cord and had a rifle style gun that shot high pressure water at IED's that would set them off. They were still considered secret at the time so we weren't allowed to talk about them. Or darn, I have broke the silence and will now have to shot you all. Don't worry it will be awhile especially with the price of bullets being what they are right now.

Waring navies used to fly different flags to confuse the enemy. Just before firing upon an enemy ship, the crew would hoist their flag of origin. That is the genesis of the term: "Show your true colors."

Challenger 3 (CR3) is a British fourth-generation main battle tank in development for the British Army. It will be produced by the conversion of existing Challenger 2 tanks by the British/German Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land joint venture.

Improvements to Challenger 2 began in 2005 as the Capability And Sustainment Programme (CSP) to keep the Challenger 2 competitive until the 2030s. Lack of funding[14] meant that it was not until 2014 that the programme was formally reorganised into the "Challenger 2 Life Extension Programme" (LEP). In response to the LEP programme, two prototypes were submitted for evaluation; one from BAE Systems in 2018[15] and the other from Rheinmetall in 2019.[16] Later that year BAE and Rheinmetall merged their British operations into Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL), effectively leaving Rheinmetall's proposal the only option available without replacing the Challenger 2 fleet with foreign models.[17]

The Challenger 3 has an all-new turret with an improved hull. The most significant change from Challenger 2 to Challenger 3 is the replacement of the Challenger's main armament from a 120 mm L30A1 rifled main gun to the 120 mm L55A1[18] smoothbore gun (which itself is an upgraded version of the L55 fitted to the Leopard 2A6/A7 family of main battle tanks) giving commonality with other NATO members. Ammunition is to be developed in conjunction with Rheinmetall AG, with a new kinetic energy round being developed for Challenger 3 and Leopard 2.[19]

The entry into service of the Challenger 3 has been brought forward to 2025, not 2027 as originally planned. The first units are to be delivered to the British Army in 2025. A total of 148 tanks are to be produced, with costs estimated at 906.89 million British pounds sterling (1.17 billion US dollars).[20] By the spring of 2024, eight pre-production tanks had been delivered and trials had commenced in Germany.

They really went all around Robin Hood's barn to get that tank upgraded.  Looks like it would pay to have stock in Rheinmetall.  I love the name Life Extension Programme.  It sounds more medical than mechanical.  You got a beautiful tank there for all it went through.

The man has been accused of sexual assault, coercion, abuse by eight women. One claimed while she was being raped, he demanded she call him "Master." Another claimed while he was forcing himself on her he said, "I'm a very wealthy man and I'm used to getting what I want." He has denied all allegations against him. I know what you are thinking & no it is not Donald J. Trump. It is award winning fantasy novelist, Neil Galman. The English author behind The Sandman, Coraline, and American Gods, all of which have been adapted for film or TV. Anyone here read any of his books?

I've never read any of his books, but The Sandman sounds familiar as being connected to the murder of a young girl some time ago.  The accused used the "the Sandman told me to do it" or something like it.  Does that ring a bell?

Florida elementary school principal is arrested after 100 kids found at her home for alcohol-fueled party: cops

An elementary school principal in Florida was arrested after 100 children were found at an alcohol-infused party she hosted, police said.

Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan, the 47-year-old principal of Roosevelt Elementary School in Cocoa Beach, was arrested on January 19 after police were called for a reported house party.

When offices arrived, they found more than 100 kids dressed in “matching t-shirts.” Many of them were consuming alcohol that was available in coolers inside the house.

One child was suffering from an “alcohol-related medical event” on the principal’s lawn. The kid was “so heavily intoxicated” that the Brevard County Fire Rescue was called to treat the child, police said.

Offices saw Hill-Brodigan in her driveway turning off the outside lights before walking into her home. That meant the fire rescue team had to use their vehicle’s auxiliary lights while treating the child with the medical episode, police said.

Another child was arrested for DUI near the principal’s home, authorities said.

An “intoxicated” Roosevelt Elementary teacher — Karly Anderson — approached the officers at the scene, telling them she was a teacher and had been at the party, police said.

Both Hill-Brodigan and Anderson were both arrested. They each face one felony charge of child neglect and one misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Hill-Brodgian also faces one misdemeanor count of holding an open house party.

Brevard Public Schools told WESH in a statement that both women had been placed on administrative leave.

“Both employees have been immediately placed on administrative leave pending the results of an active police investigation,” the school district said. “We are extremely troubled by these accusations and are fully cooperating with the Cocoa Beach Police Department. Our commitment to student safety remains our top priority.”

According to her bio on the elementary school’s website, Hill-Brodigan was once awarded “Teacher of the Year.”

“I have had the pleasure to serve the students and parents of Brevard County for the last 23 years. Students, families, and staff are very close to my heart, I really enjoy what I do,” her bio states.
