Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-02 02:44:34Copy HTML One for Pete. Britain has just showcased its new Challenger 3 tank, the first tank in the world that can operate without a crew. It also showcases a new kind of armour. All tanks in the world use the Chobham armour, which was invented here but this new tank has now gone one better than Chobham. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-02 03:58:39Copy HTML Britain is tinkering with the House of Lords. The upper chamber of Parliament was once made up of hereditary peers, barons, earls, & the like whose seats were passed down from eldest son to eldest son. Since Cromwell there's been a succession of efforts to abolish the hereditary aspect in favor of lifetime appointments, yet it's never quite stuck. The most recent reform push, at the end of the 20th century, left the chamber with 804 members of whom 92 are hereditary. Now a bill to boot those last relics out is barreling toward approval under P.M. Starmer, who tuts that government posts should not be reserved for men who were merely born into certain families.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-02 09:36:18Copy HTML If the remaining 92 hereditary peers wish to remain and are considered to be of value to the Upper House they can be created life peers and sit under that title instead. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-02 09:54:48Copy HTML Volodymyr Zelensky is putting Western leaders on the spot after announcing his new victory plan to end the war with Russia that's really a list of demands: admit Ukraine to NATO now & allow Ukraine's army to use Western missiles to strike deep inside Russia's borders. To sweeten the deal Kyiv will offer up its own army to defend Europe, replacing U.S. troops on the continent with Ukrainians. If these demands are not met, he warned Ukraine will have to develop its own nuclear weapons. Some say the nuclear talk is an empty threat, but the argument is the West owes Ukraine protection under the NATO nuclear umbrella because they gave up their nuclear arsenal when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1994 under pressure from the U.S., U.K., & Russia. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 08:34:41Copy HTML Sadly it's a sign that Ukraine is getting desperate, ultimately Russia will win, but at a cost. Most likely the eastern Donbas region will be absorbed into Russia leaving Ukraine reduced in size by about 20%. The only good to come out of it is that Russia too will be depleted in men and arms and will be in no position to take on any more "special operations". You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 08:52:49Copy HTML Agreed, Ukraine cannot win in the long run. Over here when this started most people were gung-ho in support of Ukraine..................now as the war drags on & on it is let's just get it over with. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 10:11:12Copy HTML I think matters are far worse for Putin than what is being reported. I think his position right now is a precarious one and getting more so by the month. His army is demoralised and just what do his own soldiers think of him bringing in the automatons of North Korea? These aren't allies, they're mercenaries with no dog in the fight. It's not going to do their morale any good and a groundswell of discontent is spreading throughout the nation as the casualty figures soar. Ukraine's invasion of Russia cements for many that this war cannot be won and they want out. The men first sent to counter the Ukrainian invasion were virtually conscripts and the Ukrainian army have wiped them out and those that weren't surrendered en mass. It was an utter humiliation. I think they're literally kidnapping people from their homes to fight this war and as far as they're concerned, for what? To side quote bomber Harris... the Russians thought that they were going to bomb everybody and nobody was going to bomb them, well the Ukrainians have bombed their capital itself. I give Putin no more than six months. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 10:47:21Copy HTML A cornered enemy is a more dangerous enemy, that could be a problem. Also if he goes what will his replacement be like? An even more belligerent war hawk or a moderate peacemaker, if there is such a thing in Russia. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 11:45:30Copy HTML A cornered enemy is a more dangerous enemy, that could be a problem. Also if he goes what will his replacement be like? An even more belligerent war hawk or a moderate peacemaker, if there is such a thing in Russia. His replacement will be somebody committed to ending the war as favourably as possible, a man who can put the shiniest light on a disaster. The Chinese are beginning to put some light between them and Russia now, as they don't like the Korean element to the war and his oligarchs are beginning to grumble too. The population are against it now and it's sewing division throughout the land. Do they put Putin out quietly to graze or just shoot him in the time honoured communist fashion? |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 11:50:44Copy HTML If the remaining 92 hereditary peers wish to remain and are considered to be of value to the Upper House they can be created life peers and sit under that title instead. They should get rid of the entire utterly useless majority of the members, as most of them are just bribery recipients. The Lords is a way of either getting rid of someone or rewarding them for favours asked. The place stinks and is nothing more that an up market old folks home. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 05:42:03Copy HTML That seems the best solution if it's going to be revised. Personally I'd go back to the pre-1999 reforms. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-03 08:42:18Copy HTML We do need a second chamber, but not a gentleman's club which allows women members. The Lord's has become a self sustaining private member's club that is bloated on useless members, free drinks and free dinners. I'd love to find out what the Lord's booze bill is every year. They receive 342 quid a day in payment plus expenses. They only have to step through the door and sign the register to get that money and go straight back home, which some do, having the taxi that brought them wait outside to ferry them back home the second after they sign in. It's just one big fiddle and I'm dead against any fiddle I'm not involved in. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-04 09:42:57Copy HTML No reason, just thought I'd put this in. Anyone got a better voice than this lady from south Wales. This is from 1996, she'll be 88 in January. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-04 12:38:16Copy HTML I remember her last TV appearance some years ago. She came on stage, pretty much as she did above, dressed in an outrageous outfit that about 50 birds of one kind or another had selflessly laid down their lives for and as soon as she began to sing you could hear she was not quite the same and when she came to the high note, which everybody was waiting for, whoops, it didn't happen, it was as flat as a witch's tit. Poor Shirl, I think somebody put his arm around her and gave her the naughty words because she's never been on since. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-04 01:09:37Copy HTML A Scottish employment tribunal ruled that an electrician whose supervisor called him a "stupid bald (profanity)" is a victim of sexual harassment. Since baldness is much more prevalent in males, the panel ruled, the supervisor demeaned his victim based on "the protected characteristic of sex." |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2024-11-04 01:16:29Copy HTML "Too Many Balls" is an advertisement for a new Boston-based women's pro soccer team. It was meant to be a refreshing addition to Boston's roster of male teams. BUT WAIT..............the advertisement has been stopped and an apology issued for the hurt caused to the LGBTQ+ & the trans community for the hurt caused for implying ONLY MEN HAVE TESTICLES. Imagine that??? |
