Don't know if you Island People get much of the American Weather reports over there but Beefalo NY took a terrible beating with a bomb snow storm. Numerous deaths because emergency crews couldn't get to strained people in their cars or homes. They are finding bodies in snow banks of people who were out walking in it. All roads had to be closed to local traffic for days until they could get them ploughed enough for emergency vehicles to get out. Even the large snow plough trucks were having to get rescued. People were running out of medicine in their homes and with the hydro out, wouldn't be able to run their gas or oil  furnaces or even any electrical heating. Some people who had portable generators killed themselves for not venting them good enough and died of Carbon monoxide poisoning. Their water pipes were freezing up and most people wouldn't know that in cold weather to stop that from happening you have to keep a tap open and water flowing through the system. Tommy will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they got up to 4 Ft. of snow mixed with very strong winds. Question for Tommy. Did you get a chance to use your Generec power system to keep you going?

True, but you did it for the good of the lessors. All those Egyptian treasures would have been lost or stolen if left where they were. They were much safer in the British Museum...................Oops, never mind.

I don't think Idelia affected Tennessee, at least I haven't heard anything.  In  my part of Virginia, we haven't gotten so much as a spit from the heavens.  It is so dry here that you can't find a green lawn anywhere.  We are currently on  mandatory water conservation.  I practice as a general rule (we all live downstream), but it's a little scary seeing the river so low.  Teresa generally checks in every couple of days, so she'll update us soon.  My local weather gal is more interested in the weather in Toledo than in Nashville.

My heart goes out to you girl. Every second day here it seems to rain some. No to rub it in but my front and back lawns and my out door plants haven't looked this good in years. Canada has 20% of all the fresh water in Canada and doesn't have American tornados or hurricane as much which saves us a lot in home insurance. A little story on home insurance just happened to me. My policy came due in Aug and they raise it by approx. $40.00 a year.

When I read the policy over it had that my roof shingles were last replaced in 2006. I phoned the company to correct that info because I just had it replaced in the fall of 2022 with a higher grade of shingles. When I told the young lady she checked on the brand of shingle I just had installed and not only did my policy not go up that 40 dollars it also dropped $25 more a month than I was paying before. Just as good as buying a lotto ticket. Oh and I also claimed the roof and new windows on my taxes as a deduction under the home improvements plan being offered.

Much snow with you Art? Quite a decent covering down here, the first this winter and deeper than any last winter.

Churchill, Manitoba, Canada Polar bears are invading this small Canadian town. Lack of sea ice & their natural prey, seals, is forcing them to look for food in town. Climate change is given as the reason.

Perhaps they shouldn't have built their town in polar bear country.  Their tourism ads touts up close encounters with the bears.  Yeah, I'll buy climate change for a dollar.

Heavy rain overnight literally melted all the snow, none left except the remains of snowmen built by the neighbours. It came at the right time - Sunday so the kids can play in it and on a day when most adults don't have to go out.

You were an election denier and now you are climate change denier. What do think has caused the last 10 years to be the hottest on recorder and melted all the pack ice in the Artic so the bears have no ice left to hunt seals on? If the town wasn't there right now and their dump, all the bears would die of starvation in less that two years.

2023 has already been listed as the hottest on record.

Churchill

A variety of nomadic Arctic peoples lived and hunted in this region. The Thule people arrived around the year 1000 from the west, the ancestors of the present-day Inuit. The Dene people arrived around the year 500 from farther north.[citation needed] Since before the time of European contact, the region around Churchill has been predominantly inhabited by the Chipewyan and Cree peoples.[citation needed]

Europeans first arrived in the area in 1619 when a Danish expedition led by Jens Munk wintered near where Churchill would later stand. Only 3 of 64 expedition members survived the winter and sailed one of the expedition's two ships, the sloop Lamprey, back to Denmark.[6] Danish archaeologists in 1964 discovered remains of the abandoned ship, the frigate Unicorn, in the tidal flats some kilometres from the mouth of the river.[7] The discoveries were all taken to Denmark; some are on display at the National Museum in Copenhagen.

After an abortive attempt in 1688–89, in 1717 the Hudson's Bay Company built the first permanent settlement, Churchill River Post, a log fort a few kilometres upstream from the mouth of the Churchill River. The trading post and river were named after John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, who was governor of the Hudson's Bay Company in the late 17th century. The fort, Prince of Wales Fort, was rebuilt at the mouth of the river. The fort was built mostly to capitalize on the North American fur trade, out of the reach of York Factory. It dealt mainly with the Chipewyan living north of the boreal forest. Much of the fur came from as far away as Lake Athabasca and the Rocky Mountains.[citation needed] A defensive battery, Cape Merry Battery, was built on the opposite side of the fort to provide protection.

The first big climate change noticed was caused by the Brits and their industrial revolution. It was so bad in London that people couldn't grow flowers or plants. Then the Germans invention fertilizer by condensing Nitrogen thinking plants love nitrogen and need it to grow and everyone thought it was a good thing until it got into their ground water.

They are calling for a mild winter here this year. We get a bit of snow and usually the next day or the day after it's back to green grass again.

The little bit of snow though we get, is playing havoc with my day and nightly wee friends that show up in turn with a knife and fork in hand. First it's the squirrels and birds, them come the skunks and the possums and last but not least is a racoon bigger that most medium sized dogs.
