1842 Allan Pinkerton, age 22, was working in a mill in Glasgow, Scotland when he joined a group called the Chartists. They were protesting that only men who owned sufficient property were allowed to vote in G.B. & a faction in this group were prone to violence. Pinkerton learned that there was a warrant out for his arrest & he & his wife fled the country for the U.S. where they settled in the Scottish community of Dundee, Illinois. He later started the famous Pinkerton Detective Agency of Chicago & was known for union busting, catching thieves, & solving crimes. He became the most famous detective in U.S. history & was involved in many violent & dangerous situations. Ironically, he was walking his wife's poodle on a concrete sidewalk in Chicago when the dog's leash got tangled in his legs causing him to fall & severely bite his tongue. Gangrene set in & he died on July 1, 1884.

One of the many digital TV channels that I never watch is SON Life, a few days ago I looked in out of curiosity and saw Jimmy Swaggart sitting at a piano singing. I didn't stick around long enough for him to ask for any money.

I first saw the TV evangelists about 45 years ago in Canada. Of course, my first question to my brother was, do people really fall for this? Well they did and they were immensely rich. My favourite was a man who asked the sick to put their hand on the tv screen, he would put his on the camera and scream heeeeorrrll heeeorrrll which was heal in English and hundreds got healed through the tv screen.

That would have been Earnest Angley...............get it "Sincere Angel." He had a rug on his head that looked like roadkill glued askew on his skull. I always thought if he could really heal people he could grow hair on his own head.

Going back to the Pinkerton Detective Agency, it's mentioned in two Sherlock Holmes stories published in the 1910s, set in the 1880s and 90s.

Pinkerton played a significant role in presidential security before the secret service. Also, in spying & espionage during the American Civil War. He was the most famous detective until Sherlocke Holmes.

Happy traitors’ day.

Major, Put the blame where it belongs. It belongs to King George.

I have ancestors that were living in the colonies as far back as

the 1750's. I have ancestors that fought for the colony's during the

Revolutionary War. Years ago, I read where the colonies would pass

a law, that would have helped them. It was signed by the governor

and sent to London for King George to sign. He refused to sign it.

The problems with King George was building for years.

In my opinion, it benefits both the US and Great Britain to have good

relations and to trade and do business with each other.
