Re:ON THIS DATE Date Posted:2025-05-06 08:03:18Copy HTML A belated inclusion (should have been yesterday) for astronaut John Shepard and America’s first launch into sub orbital space on the Mercury missions. He did experience weightlessness, reaching a height of 116 miles. When about to launch he uttered the immortal words….ok let’s light this candle, when he should have said firework, which is just about what they were at the time. He went on to walk on the moon as commander of Apollo 14 and became the oldest man to ever go in to space, how great is that? He served in the navy in WW2. He died of leukaemia in 1998. |

The Highlands of Scotland inhabited by a fierce tribe known as the Picts. They basically couldn't get along with anyone including their own clans. Constant fighting & mass immigration in the 1700's depleted them somewhat but the ornery disposition remains in today's inhabitants. |

Navy Secretary John Phelan visited Pearl Harbor & posted two tributes to the U.S. civilians & military killed on that "fateful day of June 7, 1931." In fact, the Japs attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, in what then POTUS FDR called "a date which will live in infamy." So much for a date being well known, eh? A remarkable man predicting the attack six months ahead! Should have been President with gifts like that. |
