Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-03 08:12:13Copy HTML Elon Musk and Secretariat seem to have a lot in common. Secretariat had a over enlarged heard Shula and according to all the ex-military that have recently lost their jobs they don't think Musk even has a heart. Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-03 09:25:45Copy HTML I just found out that Bob Baffert trained Citizen Bull. I might have to change my picks. On the other hand, Luxor Cafe is in the #7 spot which is supposed to be the luckiest spot to be in. Post time is 6:57 pm. I'm all atwitter.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-04 05:27:01Copy HTML I didn't know you were into the horses. She isn't Mark as you can tell my the horses she picked. Sovereignty was the winner and started at 5-1 and by the time the window closed was at 9-1. The favourite Journalism came second. The race was on a sloppy track which always has to be taken into consideration. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-04 12:33:20Copy HTML I have calmed down considerably, Thomas, now that my winning streak has not been broken. I have never picked a winner in the Kentucky Derby and this year was no exception. Now on to the Preakness to see if I successfully pick the loser again. This is why I never gamble or play the ponies. I do love the races, though. This time last year my Bear was so sick and declining so rapidly that every morning he opened his eyes, I knew that this was the best day I would ever have for the rest of my life. To keep myself occupied I made clothes for my little 10 1/2 in. fashion doll from 1959. I made her a Kentucky Derby outfit complete with little leather tote and riding crop. I don't know if making a 2-inch riding crop saved my sanity or confirmed the lack of it. "It is forbidden to spit on cats in plague-time."

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-06 01:22:18Copy HTML Ever wonder when bar stools became popular in the U.S. Prior to prohibition bar stools were unheard of. Men stood at the bar & occasionally shifted their weight by resting their feet on the brass rail at the foot of the bar. Women, outside of employees were not welcome or allowed generally, but if they were they had to use the ladies entrance & were consigned to tables in their own room, away from the main bar. Prohibition changed all that when women were welcome on an equal basis & bar stools were provided for their ease & comfort. BTW the term "Foot on a brass rail" described a drunk.
It was the same in Canada up until the mid sixties with two door entrances with one for men and the other for women with escorts. The funny part was the doors were beside each other and when you got inside it was only a 3 to foot cinderblock wall separated both sides. A may have told you this before but one night a friend and I were coming home from the late show and had to pass this tavern and just as we get to the doors my friends father and mother come out at 11 o'clock closing time and 3 younger guys in their early to mid twenties are coming out behind them. I don't know what was said inside to his parents but they were still harassing them on the way out. Next the mother said to her husband don't you hurt those boys and with that one of the guys said something smart and that done it. He punched the one bad mouths with one punch and knocks him out. He now grabs the second guy and lifts him up clean over his head and throws him at least 10 feet out onto the street car tracks and the street car drive has to slam on the brakes and lower the cattle catcher so not to run over him. The 3rd guy seeing this backed up and then starting running in the direction on the show with the father chasing him and my friend said to him on the way, I wouldn't stop if I was you and he didn't. The father was an ex-commando from the second world war and spend many a evening in the ring in Toronto and Hamilton wresting with some of the big name wresters of that time and them go out the tavern after to replace the liquid that has lost while in the ring. The mother was Mohawk and them saying something smart about it is what probably started the whole thing. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-06 01:25:29Copy HTML The Brits are back on my news feed. It's all about VE Day celebrations in England. I'm loving the photos, the slideshows of the fashions, the adorable kids, and finally getting to see Princess Anne in the news again. I also love funny headlines. Today's was great. There is a photo of the King speaking with an elderly couple (perhaps relatives?), smiling broadly with the King standing and the elders seated. The caption read: "King Charles Supported by Prince William and Kate as Royal Family Lead the Nation's VE Day Celebrations". C'mon Shula, you saw Princess Anne last Saturday running in the Derby. |

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-06 07:38:42Copy HTML I've not seen the photo, but I guess the older folk were veterans. At the parade the Royal Family were joined on the front row by WW II veterans, the Prime Minister sat in the second row. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Don't start another Date Posted:2025-05-07 12:35:03Copy HTML Oh Thomas, to speak so harshly of my Princess Anne! She's at the top of my Most Admired Women list. She's smart and has more grit than any of the Royals in my opinion. She would have made a great queen. There will be no Triple Crown winner this year. Sovereignty is not running in the Preakness. I meet her in Toronto at the horse show at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) I was part of the 8th Canadian Hussars honour guard for her. She was much taller that I had expected "It is forbidden to spit on cats in plague-time."

I totally agree with you about Princess Anne. I have heard that she is a good woman. She does a lot of charity work for the Royals. |

A happy lot indeed after almost 6 years at war. What part of the country was this, Pete It was taken in Brighton Sussex on Hanover Terrace. They being on the south coast was the last place for the German bombers to drop their bombs before trying to make it across the English Channel for France. It was done to make the plane lighter because by this time most of their bombers were almost out of fuel and many crashed not making it into the Channel on route or on the beaches of France. Brighton wasn't bombed as much as London was, but still 34 times. A happy lot indeed. Just being able to have lights on at night in their homes must have been something. Just trying to keep Britain supplies with men and military equipment from planes vehicles of all types ammo tanks and the most important think for the people was food. One of the things Canada introduced them to was peanut butter which was a Canadian invention. It was also supplies to the troops and when the war was over my father never ate peanut butter again. |
