Date Posted:2022-12-29 05:10:13Copy HTML Don't know if you Island People get much of the American Weather reports over there but Beefalo NY took a terrible beating with a bomb snow storm. Numerous deaths because emergency crews couldn't get to strained people in their cars or homes. They are finding bodies in snow banks of people who were out walking in it. All roads had to be closed to local traffic for days until they could get them ploughed enough for emergency vehicles to get out. Even the large snow plough trucks were having to get rescued. People were running out of medicine in their homes and with the hydro out, wouldn't be able to run their gas or oil furnaces or even any electrical heating. Some people who had portable generators killed themselves for not venting them good enough and died of Carbon monoxide poisoning. Their water pipes were freezing up and most people wouldn't know that in cold weather to stop that from happening you have to keep a tap open and water flowing through the system. Tommy will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they got up to 4 Ft. of snow mixed with very strong winds. Question for Tommy. Did you get a chance to use your Generec power system to keep you going?

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2024-09-27 07:11:01Copy HTML A nasty Hurricane made landfall last night in Florida and then travelled to points North. People were warned that this was going to be a bad one but many people chose not to leave and stayed behind to watch their homes fall apart and then float away. This storm was approx. 500 miles wide and measured as a cat. 4 Hurricane when it made landfall. This is God's way of punishing the world's second largest polluter's of his world. Being a Canadian model the speedometer was in Kilometers not MPH. The top Km ended at 160kms which was a bit silly because I had it going that fast at least in third gear and not red lining. |

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2025-01-25 06:35:53Copy HTML 'Stay at home': More than 1,000 UK and Ireland flights cancelled due to 'once in a generation' stormA record-breaking storm is wreaking havoc with travel and daily life across the UK and Ireland. Flights and trains are cancelled across the countries, and driving conditions are very dangerous due to the storm which meteorologists have said is "rapidly developing". Citizens have been told to stay at home during the dangerous weather, which is predicted to last all day Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland all have rare red weather warnings in place, signalling threats to life, and there are yellow and amber warnings in place across the UK. Storm Eowyn has broken Ireland's wind speed record, with Met Eireann recording an average wind speed of nearly 135km/h recorded at Mace Head in County Galway early this morning. Heathrow, Gatwick, Edinburgh, Glasgow airports: Are flights cancelled?Yes, hundreds of flights have been cancelled at almost all of the UK and Ireland's biggest airports. To quickly find out if your flight is affected, you can check the airport's arrival and departure pages on their website. It's also worth checking your airline's website, app and social media, and keep an eye on your email for updates. In London, flights have been cancelled at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and London City airports. The cancellations announced so far are until midday UK time but more are likely throughout the afternoon and evening. Here is a full list of London airport cancellations. Glasgow, Dublin Edinburgh airports have cancelled almost all their departures and arrivals until mid-afternoon. Storm Eowyn: Are trains running?Several train operators have issued "do not travel" warnings over safety fears. ScotRail has suspended all services across Scotland today, saying it "would not be safe to operate passenger services due to forecast weather conditions". Avanti West Coast, Lumo, CrossCountry and Grand Central have also told customers not to travel on routes across parts of north Wales, Scotland and northern England. National Rail said the storm will also affect LNER, London Northwestern Railway/West Midlands Railway, Northern, South Western Railway, Southern, TransPennine Express and some Transport for Wales routes. Homes and businesses without power and schools closedMore than 715,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power across Ireland, the Irish Electricity Supply Board (ESB) has said. Earlier, Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) - which is part of ESB - said more than 93,000 homes and businesses are currently without power in Northern Ireland. All schools in Ireland and Northern Ireland are closed today (24 January). |

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2025-01-25 08:43:02Copy HTML Windy for sure where I am, but I'm outside the "danger" zone, so nothing more than wheelie bins blown over as it was bin day, so a lot of rubbish in the streets. Like a good neighbour I was out picking it up at 0930 yesterday. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2025-01-25 11:41:39Copy HTML 10 degrees F this morning. Moderate winds, had to plow snow yesterday. Inside temp at a balmy 70 degrees F thanks to under the floor boiler heat fired by propane. It is not easy living in the country. Just outside Buffalo Harbor, a Canadian freighter was trapped in the Lake Erie ice for several days. Help on the way from Detroit via U.S. Coast Guard cutter, Bristol Bay. After two days of ice-breaking the captain has given up & the freighter is still stuck in 5 feet of ice. A request has been made for a much larger Canadian icebreaker to come to the rescue. It has been a harsh winter. Climate warming, climate change, or whatever fits the narrative. With both American & Canadian Coast Guard vessels working in conjunction, the massive Canadian cargo ship has been freed. She is heading back to Sarnia with her crew of 17. Frozen freighter on the move after getting stuck in Lake Erie ice for daysA freighter with 17 people aboard is now free after being stuck in ice on Lake Erie for Days. The ship was freed on Saturday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard said. The Manitoulin, a 663-foot (202-meter) Canadian vessel with 17 people on board, got stuck in the ice on Lake Erie on Wednesday after it dropped off a load of wheat in Buffalo, New York, and was heading back to Canada, the Coast Guard said. The ship wasn't damaged, and its crew is safe, officials said. Freighters in the Great Lakes often encounter surface ice in the winter but sometimes run into ice that is too hard or thick to break through. A U.S. Coast Guard icebreaking ship had been working since Thursday to help the Manitoulin, and on Saturday, officials said a second ship arrived to help free the freighter. The Canadian Coast Guard also had a ship assisting with the effort. The freighter was escorted through nearly 20 miles (32 kilometers) of ice from Buffalo until it got to free water, according to Lt. Kyle Rivera of the Coast Guard. So why is the American side of Lake Erie being allowed to let it's ice build up so thick that delivery ships can't get through should be the question? If the people of Buffalo had been starving to death for the want of wheat to make there pasta and bread I ask you, wouldn't that not be Trump's fault? By the way the Canadian ship had to be called in because the American ships couldn't handle the job. The two ice breaks from the States were too small to do it so they had to call in Canada's larger ice breaker. If were not fighting you fires for you we are keeping your small part of the Great Lakes clear of pack ice. |

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2025-01-25 10:03:08Copy HTML I guess mine is a "wheelie". I roll it to the curb on two wheels. It's large, blue, and very unwieldy. I also have small containers for recycling paper, metal and plastic. We no longer recycle glass here which is really stupid. Why, do you break a lot of it? I know they say witches don't have any mirrors in their house which may account for a lot of it I guess. "It is forbidden to spit on cats in plague-time."

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2025-01-26 07:14:59Copy HTML Have we got to that stage in life in which we're having a conversation about bins? Large items will be collected by the Council by appointment if you can't take them to the tip/recycling centre yourself. Plus we get lorries coming round calling "rag bone" which harks back to the really old days when they would literally collect rags and bones, today they're looking for scrap metal. Next we'll talk about coat hangers and how easily they break these days. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

My taxes are cheaper as a result & when I flush my toilet the contents go under the front lawn. |

Re:BAD WEATHER. Date Posted:2025-01-28 12:33:43Copy HTML In addition to trash and recycling pick-up, we also have yard waste curbside pick-up. This service, too, has its regulations. Very large, very thick, paper bags are preferred. Getting those bags open and ready to be filled presents a real problem for me. They are so long that I can't reach inside to open them up. I've found the only solution is to put the bag over my body and fight it open. At my age, it lends a whole new meaning to "bag over the head".
