Date Posted:2022-03-30 07:40:45Copy HTML The longer this goes on, the more I see Ukraine as being just another cold war ball for each side to kick around. The initial attack on the Russian economy by the west has just about run its course and now the Rouble has recovered, China, India and most of the rich middle eastern states still back Russia and Putin and he has never been so popular with his own people. I see talk of him being ousted as a matter of course but I'm beginning to doubt that very much, as he has an iron grip on all of the Russian institutions of state and security. Any war of attrition, which this is turning into, will always favour Russia, with its massive resources and with the west declining to go any further than it has, I can't see it going but one way. The west might close its Moscow McDonalds and a few other tokenisms but the fact is, Russia has Europe by the goolies, as we have been idiotic enough to become dependent of Russian energy, which will always be our Achilles heel. We are stuck on the Russian tit. Here in Europe a few years ago the ruling classes in Brussels issued a diktat stating that diesel engines were cleaner than petrol ones, a blatant pile of crap if ever there was one. Any person with an inkling of knowledge of engines knew this was a blatant lie and who benefitted most from it? The German car industry. Here in Britain, following our decades long policy of getting everything produced abroad, we gave up refining our own fuels on a huge scale and guess who refines all of our Diesel? Yep, Russia. There is now talk of Diesel rationing later in the year and if that happens where will our shops get their goods from? Russia holds all the cards, as far as I can see. Gas and electricity are now set to rise by up to 400% in Britain in the next two years and our political class have only added to the crisis by pampering to the ridiculous green lobby. Naturally they're having to quietly backtrack now as their own political futures are in jeopardy. Do you know that 25% of all we pay over here for energy is a green tax? If the war has any benefit for us, it will be the dawning of an energy reality in the corridors of power. Where all the smart ones over there that created the Industrial Revolution and help modernize the whole world. You are surrounded by ocean with so many inlets bays and rivers that you should have introduced tidal power in quantity by now. You also can set up unlimited numbers of wind turbines on both land and surrounding sea. For far too long you have relied on other countries to do the brain and heavy lifting jobs. Invest in a pipe line from the oil fields of Alberta and Saskatchewan to our east coast and we can get not only you the fuel and oil you need but also to the rest of Europe. A second option might even be a Trans-Atlantic pipe line much like the communication cable. You could also get oil or hydro power from Norway. Time for Britain to start thinking out side of the box because your just making the situation worse by buying oil from Russia. That money you pay them is only used to fund the war against Ukraine. Next who's to say, he will be using your own money to attack you down the road. |

Re:The war in Ukraine Date Posted:2025-04-16 09:19:32Copy HTML Amazingly several US soldiers were hanged by the US military authorities in GB during World War II. Shepton Mallet prison in Somerset was taken over by the US as a detention centre, that's where the executions took place. Over here rape ceased to be a capital crime in the 1860s, but under US Military Law the punishment was allowed in wartime, even outside the USA itself. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:The war in Ukraine Date Posted:2025-04-16 11:19:45Copy HTML What became the punishment for rape after 1860?

Re:The war in Ukraine Date Posted:2025-04-16 11:34:27Copy HTML I was reading back a few days where military strategy was discussed; namely, that to be successful you need to not only be able to defend but to advance. It was then stated that Biden only gave Ukraine enough money and materiel to defend but not to advance. Then further that Trump should continue providing the same. Why? It reads to me like Biden didn't really want Ukraine to win the war.

Re:The war in Ukraine Date Posted:2025-04-16 12:31:33Copy HTML What became the punishment for rape after 1860? Currently in NY State the maximum sentence for conviction of rape 1 is 25 years in prison. Rape 1 is classified as a violent felony. Engaging in sexual intercourse with another person by forcible compulsion, or if the other person is physically helpless, or the other person is less than 11 years old. |

Re:The war in Ukraine Date Posted:2025-04-16 02:11:56Copy HTML I put that on without checking, rape was no longer a capital offence after 1841, after that it was Imprisonment, but for how long I don't know. 1861 was the year that saw hanging restricted to four crimes; murder, treason, mutiny and piracy. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

It reads to me like Biden didn't really want Ukraine to win the war. He wanted Ukraine to be able to hold off the Russians, but if they couldn't defeat them he was prolonging the agony, very strange. |
