It sounds like it was a pretty big exhibit.  Did they replace it with anything?

They were displayed in the Lord Ashcroft Gallery, since the medal exhibition closed last year the space has been used for exhibitions 1945 to the present. 

I read about that.  Every law enforcement agency has a duty to protect the people and the property in its jurisdiction.  I am at a loss how all this destruction of property is going unpunished, whether it's spray painting or outright damage.  It happens here, too.

In this case the suspect was arrested & is being held without bond for a future court appearance.

Over here the outcry is usually about such vandals getting away with it. But if they're not arrested at the scene they're tracked down through CCTV and social media, many are arrested days later when they think they're safe. 

The media rarely gives an update on follow-through justice.

Before that a Royal title, but one which has fallen out of fashion, partly because it sounds a bit silly, but also because of the early and tragic endings several Dukes of Clarence came to. 

Lionel, 3rd son of King Edward III. Created Duke of Clarence in 1362 and died aged 29 in 1368, possibly poisoned by his father-in-law.

Thomas, 3rd son of King Henry IV. Created Duke of Clarence in 1412 and was killed in battle against the French in 1421 aged 32.

George, brother of King Edward IV. Created Duke of Clarence in 1461, convicted of treason by his brother and stripped of his titles before being executed in 1478 aged 28.

William, 3rd son of King George III. Created Duke of Clarence in 1789. the only one who had a long and fruitful life, he succeeded as King William IV in 1830 and died aged 71 in 1837.

Albert Victor, eldest son of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. Created Duke of Clarence in 1890, died of influenza aged 29 in 1892 six weeks before his marriage.

There have also been two equally unlucky Earls of Clarence.

Leopold, fourth son of Queen Victoria. Created Earl of Clarence in 1881. A haemophiliac he died after a fall in 1884 aged 30.

His son Leopold Charles who was born four months after his father's death and succeeded as Earl of Clarence upon his birth. He succeeded his uncle as Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in Germany in 1900 and was stripped of his British titles in 1919 for adhering to the enemy in World War I. He had already been deposed as ruling Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1918. He died in an apartment in Coburg aged 69 in 1954. 

No wonder the title has been quietly dropped,  

No doubt named in honour of William, Duke of Clarence later King William IV. 

Interestingly Prince William was the first member of the Royal Family to visit the USA. He was a teenage midshipman in the Royal Navy when his ship was stationed in New York 1781-82.  

The name John is similarly avoided in the Royal Family with its unfortunate associations and tragic lives of those with that name. 

The Duke of Gloucester, grandson of King George V and first cousin once removed (cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth) to King Charles is named Richard.
