Churchill later sent a message to Roosevelt informing him that he would ask the House of Commons for a declaration of war against Japan but would wait so as to allow the U.S. to do it first. Receiving no reply Winston got his declaration of war from the House of Commons making the U.K. the first nation to declare war against Japan the next day. Note the Japs had also attacked British possessions in the Pacific.
