With the coronation coming up it's only right that we should have a page devoted to HM King Charles III.

Although the coronation is billed as a slimmed down affair I trust it will be a grand enough spectacle. It's what most of us want, ignore the mean-spirited anti-Monarchists and those whining about cost. As someone in The Daily Telegraph said last week, we want snaggle-toothed Lords in full ermine!

Judging by the list of ancient traditions being observed we'll see individuals carrying St Edward's Staff, the sceptre with dove (eh?), the Sword of Offering, the Sword of Spiritual Justice, the Sword of Temporal Justice, the Sword of Mercy and the spurs (eh? again) among other arcane things. Lovely stuff, bring it on!

With King Charles' desire for inclusivity and diversity (yawn) we'll see a disproportionately large number of ethnics involved in the ceremony, but that's the world we live in now.

Seems as if Charles should have banished Harry from attending the festivities, according to Camilla & William.

It was the King's decision and I think the right one. Extending an olive branch was magnanimous on his part, accepting it for a few hours churlish on Prince Harry's. Either stay the weekend or not come at all.

According to royal expert Tom Bower (whoever he is) Harry returned home in California pissed off (American for angry) that he received no apology from the royals for what they did to him & his wife. I guess Meghan is mad because the royals made her a Dutchess & relevant on the world stage & Harry is mad because he was made number two hence the Spare. On the other side of the coin, the royals (Except for the King) feel that Harry betrayed them with his tell all interview & book & are afraid to even talk to him for fear of their conversation going public.

Family problems affect everyone, even the Royals, at least it makes them "more like us".

Imperfect, not how we'd like to view Royals, more like the general population.

I "got" your point, but I just don't "see" it. John & Mary view the royals as somehow "above" the mortals & thereby immune to these sort of normal problems.

An outdated view these days. Now there's a call for the Royals to be more like us; to show emotion and an ability to connect with the ordinary folk in the style of the Dutch Monarchy for instance.

I agree, Tom.  When the gap is closed between the Royal and the Commoner, the Royal is out.

It's a difficult path to tread; too aloof and you become irrelevant and out of touch, too informal you lose the aura of majesty.

Nonsense. The royals have always been irrelevant & out of touch, like our professional athletes & Hollywood celebrities. That's what makes them so interesting.

Their monstrous behavior such as sexual crimes, racist writing, or just self-centeredness all get a pass, a special dispensation. If they are held to the same rules as the rest of us, then they become the rest of us which of course is unthinkable. Let the royals keep their aura & their Habsburg jaw, dowager's hump, & hemophilia.

Harry is a good example of a Royal trying to become "one of us".  His title is no more than a participation trophy now.  The more common he becomes the less lucrative that title will be.

The topic of monstrous behavior brings us to Edward VII or "Dirty Bertie" & the siege d'amour or love chair which enabled him to have sex with multiple women at the same time. What a guy!!!! Hated by Queen Victoria who blamed him for her husband's death he was considered by historians as a bit of a charming dolt with hundreds of women counted as conquests.

A slight exaggeration I think. He was never hated by his mother, she certainly disapproved of his behaviour and in the early days of her grief blamed him for her husband's death.

There are no confirmed illegitimate children of Edward VII, unusual considering his reputation. But in common with practice at the time most of his conquests were young married women, so if they became pregnant any child could be accepted as the husband's.

Forgive us if we didn't watch the coronation of King Charles III with delight" said Kenyan journalist Patrick Gathara in Al Jazeera (Qatar). In putting on that display of hereditary wealth & aristocracy the British were asking the world to join in celebrating something they have actively denied to other societies, a sense of their own history.

Canadians are stuck with Charles as their sovereign with 60% of Canucks not wanting him as king. John Fraser in the Globe & Mail wrote, Charles is not a bad person for the job. He's shown himself to have a strong conscience & is clearly personally moved by the crimes of his forebears, especially in the slave trade. We can expect him to be the monarch who leads Britain on its long overdue journey of reconciliation.

Tommy has several times remarked on the physical appearance of certain members of the Royal Family, I'll concede that some are not exactly oil paintings, but it cannot be denied that the Prince of Wales' three children are extremely cute, Princess Charlotte has all the signs of being a real beauty.

The point being Tommy that many Canadians didn't think that Charles could ever fill his mother's shoes and with him doing a lot better than expected many again will embrace the Royalty.

Do you not think he is being forced a little into it by his other half and her whining? They would have stayed in Canada but they didn't have the free security. Mixed marriages are excepted here and in the States but not in England when you are a Royal. The first thing they worried about was what colour would the babies be.
