Date Posted:2024-05-22 05:07:53Copy HTML Let's have a new page for the UK and US Elections 2024. Ours has been called early for 4 July. Labour will win and Sir Keir Starmer will be Prime Minister on 5 July ending 14 years of Conservative government. My guess is that the Labour majority won't be as large as some are predicting (over100 seats) more like 30-50 perhaps. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-07 10:26:36Copy HTML I am not in favour of general tariffs myself because, as you say, it only encourages others to do the same and can lead to inefficiency in your own industries. They must only be used to address inequalities in present trade differences. I'm sure he's not going to go down that road and I would be very surprised and disappointed if he does. Trump uses threat all of the time to get America's way and by and large they work. Now, what's he going to do outside of trade? Say Ukraine for instance? Will he defund them? I hope not but he will put an eye on the millions disappearing through every crack in the Ukrainian wall. |

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-07 11:35:28Copy HTML Trump's battle cry has always been "promises made, promises kept", so we'll see how far he can get in two years. If the tallies are in and correct, the republicans will control all three branches of government come January. Americans traditionally will tolerate that for two years, so when the mid-terms come in 2026, either the House or the Senate will likely be controlled by democrats. In Virginia, even though we are now a blue state and the electoral votes went to Harris, our democrat senator up for reelection, Tim Kaine a/k/a Hillary's running mate in 2016, was unseated by a republican.

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-07 12:20:18Copy HTML See bloviating to the choir in exchange for votes. Then when the midterms come in two years, the congress usually turns because of promises not kept. Then the cycle begins all over again with John & Mary Lunchbucket assured in the promise of "hope." |

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-07 12:25:28Copy HTML Tariffs on everything not made in the U.S. will mean the prices at Walmart will rise & the millions of Walmartians will be unhappy. A lot of votes out the window. |

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-07 12:54:55Copy HTML Relief that the uncertainty is over. I'm no economist so I'm confused over why Trump is such good news for the economy. He's talking about huge tariffs, 20% on goods from the EU, but doesn't that mean the EU will apply equal tariffs on US goods? Where will he sell them if they're too expensive to buy other than the home market? No economy will flourish if all you're doing is selling your goods at home, international trade is the way to prosperity surely. I hope a lot of his talk is the usual electioneering waffle all politicians make in the search for votes, we saw it here this summer, when the realities of government hit he'll row back on some things, they all do once they've got in and don't need us for a few years yet. I have heard that Trump is going to end the Federal Income Tax, which is unconstitutional and return to the old import and export tax which is. Also, he is planning on a national sales tax. This is something that has been discussed for years. Also, some countries like China, have been ripping the US off for years. The import/export tax will help with this problem. You seem to forget that Trump is a business man. His BS degree is in Business Administration: Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. |

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-12 11:05:16Copy HTML Some Democrats are claiming that the Election was "stolen" much as some Republicans claimed last time. Is this the future of US Elections? Over here I've not heard anyone say that Labour stole the Election. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-12 11:33:29Copy HTML For the 2020 election there were 81 million votes cast for Biden which is a record number. Many were the mail-in ballots with the excuse of the pandemic given for the reason. That is the crux of the stolen election thingy that Trump railed on about to this day. When more ballots are cast than registered voters in some districts, the point seems valid to some. |

Re:Elections 2024 Date Posted:2024-11-13 02:27:17Copy HTML I'm getting really concerned for the welfare of Pete. Does the panel think this election result might have tipped him over the edge? Has he thrown himself under a tank? |
