The longest fence in the world is in Australia. It is slightly longer than the distance between N.Y. & London. Called the "Dingo Fence" for keeping the wild dogs out of places where they shouldn't be.

Came across this quotable quote from a Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India from 1898-1905. "Any government which by indiscriminate alms-giving weakens the fibre & demoralized the self-reliance of the population, would be guilty of a public crime." Fast forward to today.

A controversial figure Lord Curzon, he was summed up at the time by the phrase "I am George Nathaniel Curzon, I am a most superior person".

In 1923 he aimed to be Prime Minister following the resignation of Andrew Bonar Law, but it was thought inadvisable for a member of the House of Lords to be PM, so Stanley Baldwin was chosen instead. Within two years he was dead.

My next door neighbours son went to Australia for a couple of years and he took part in a kangaroo cull. He said they go on but are kept quiet for obvious reasons. They ride two up on a motorbike and ride alongside the galloping kangaroo whilst the passenger shoots it. They cull camels too and both animals are on the meat market. A couple of years ago I was in a pub that sold kangaroo steaks but I never tried one

I have tried wild game like squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, duck, venison, buffalo & the like. For the more exotic I have tried, alligator, rattlesnake, mountain oysters which are fried testicles. Can't do sushi or liver.

I grew up eating liver, as it was one of the cheapest meats and we were pretty poor. I very rarely eat it now but a great way to do it and one I’ve used on the unknowing is to cut it into long thin strips, marinade it in soy and oyster sauce then coat it in flour and deep fry until crispy. I’ve done it with chicken livers too, a great favourite with the Chinese. I didn’t tell my guests what they were eating but everybody loved them and when they’d finished all was revealed. A local pub does liver and onions in mash potato and I tried it and it was great.

Brat.  While I confess to making the world's best squirrel pot pie, after Casey referred to them as tree rats, that was the end of my squirrel-munching days.  And before you ask, NO, I do not have a squirrel tail hat.

I have eaten elk (my personal favo(u)rite, venison, rabbit, squirrel, duck, pheasant, wild turkey and bear.

I hated liver and onions night when I was a kid.

Rabbit was also a regular in our house, cooked in a stew with pearl barley, also Ox heart. I’ve had pheasant and duck but none of the others.

Goes back to when deer & boar were property of the nobles, but rabbit & squirrel were fair game. See Robin Hood & Sherwood Forest.

Liver and onions was my favourite as a kid. On family holidays when looking for somewhere to eat we'd have to find a place with liver on the menu, I'd have that while everyone else went for fish and chips.

In days of old NY City police officers carried an 11 inch club during the day, & at night when things got "rougher" changed to a 26 inch. Hence the term, "nightstick."

Liz Truss is an untested leader in a time of crisis for GB. An energy crisis looms which she plans to deliver relief by way of a giant bailout to the energy industry with a cost of $172 billion to future taxpayers. She is mostly uninspiring but to either her good fortune or bad, the death of the Queen has drawn attention away from Truss, for the time-being anyway. Only 12% of Brits believe she will be a good leader.

The task ahead is huge, she'll need a lot of luck to get through unscathed. At least to her advantage is the fact that a General Election can be put off until the end of 2024 to give her time to get it right.

I like it also Mark. Breaded of course and has to be calves liver with onions.

These other people on this site who seem to eat everything wild forget to tell you that it was mostly road kill their eating. I feed the rabbits, squirrel and sometimes the odd skunk in my yard which also keeps the two cats amused watching them from the windows. If I want meat to eat then I go to the grocery store. Venison and most of the wild birds taste too gamey for me. Don't mind a bit of moose if it's added with pork because moose along is too lean, like horse. Most Americans would eat shite, with or without sugar. No better than savages, the lot of them.

As if I didn't have enough to worry about with my sister.  She is currently in a rehab facility due to a chronic infection caused by cancer radiation treatment she received about 10 years ago.  She requires hospitalization about every month, or when the infection flares up causing pain that won't go away until she gets intravenous anti-biotics which, of course, causes more problems.  She has also been diagnosed with having had "multiple mini-strokes".  The facility is about 45 minutes away, so I have to prevail on my husband for transportation (elsewise, I would be driving around the countryside to this day trying to find my way home).  I called this morning to let her know I wouldn't be over today because we're having some tree work done and need to be home.  I was informed by the nurse that she has contracted COVID and is in isolation anyway.  This will probably result in another hospital stay given her other medical issues.  She has been fully vaccinated but given her compromised immune system, this story probably won't have a happy ending.  I feel a hard road rising.

Intravenous antibiotics are meant as a short sharp knockout blow, which is why they like to get you off them as soon as possible but they can have side effects, they can also destroy beneficial bacteria your own body uses. Sounds as though she’s really going through it. So you’re not exactly a racing driver then Shule’s?

I see that Louise Fletcher has died, she being the one who played nurse Ratched in the brilliant ‘one flew over the cuckoo’s nest. They don’t make’em like that anymore as the film industry only caters to the 14 year old mentality these days, or whatever China tells them to do.

The cartoon character "Popeye" was taken from a real person. A stoker who served aboard HMS Rodney during WWII. A color characterization of the real person who looks just like the cartoon character is remarkable. Dunno if the real guy ate spinach from a can but his nickname was "Popeye."

The Rodney was an unconventional battleship with her three turrets to the bow of the ship and none behind the bridge. She of course saw the Bismark off. And talking of the Bismark and another subject we covered a little while ago, that of men going down trapped inside sinking ships,it’s reckoned that the Hood took hundreds of living sailors down with it.
