Origin of XXX on poison bottles. Goes back to the Apalachin moonshiners who placed the triple X on their bottles of "mountain dew" to denote the product was strained 3 times. That morphed into the poison identification.

Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) had no flying lessons, yet he kept a private plane aloft until the pilot regained consciousness. Manute Bol, a 7'7" NBA player from Sudan, paid 80 cows for his wife.

The official car of James Bond was set to be the Jaguar E Type. However during the filming of Goldfinger, Sir William Lyons refused to supply the three vehicles requested by the film maker. Enter the Aston Martin DB5 & the rest is history.

My favourite car was a Jaguar E type.

Wasn't into convertibles much but like the coupes.

The E Type never ages. I'm a two plus two fan as well Pete. When me and my brother were 14 (1965) we wrote off to Jaguar asking them for a photo of the E Type and they sent us both books and pamphlets and pics etc and they knew by the writing we were kids. Great company.

Did I tell you that we went to our local pub for a Hawker Hurricane fly past a few weeks ago? There was a bit of a car show in the car park too and there was a magnificent V12 E Type there, absolutely mint. I remember being at a car auction many years ago, when Jag was about to go bust and there was a V12 for sale. There was a group of us stood silently around the open bonnet listening to it ticking over and somebody said something quite profound.... how can a company that can make something like this go bust?

That is "history" now, Mark. Jaguar is Indian, Mini-Cooper is German. Socialism, Unionism, Communism ruined you in the 60's. Quality control went down the tubes & you were building ships to sell at a loss just to keep people working. We are following suit & Canada as usual, doesn't count.

When I was stationed in Germany they had Mini-Cooper S,s that could do close to 150 miles an hour. Must have been built for the autobahns of Europe. Art please advise.

Not a clue Pete I'm afraid. The Cooper S when you were in Germany was positively mundane by today's family car standards so anything that could do those speeds back then must have been custom made jobs.

There is a timelessness to all Jaguars somehow. Just look at the length of that bonnet, now that's a truly real phallic symbol. They kicked off with the  XK100, the first car to use the legendary Jaguar XK engine, the straight six duel overhead camshaft, which would stay in production for over 45 years. It was called the XK 100 for two reasons, it had the XK engine and would do 100MPH, the XK 120 did 120MPH and guess what the XK140 did?

When I was a youngster (too young to drive) a guy down the street had one. I fell in love with it, British racing green with gorgeous wood appointments, & fine tan leather. Dunno which MK it was, but if I remember right it did not have roll up windows but side curtains. Thanks for the pix, Major.

A question for our American members . On Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA Gordon Ramsay often uses the phrase "86 it" when he wants something scrapped or dropped from the menu. Why 86? It's not a phrase we use over here.

Next week Sir Terry Wogan, had he lived, would be 84; he died in 2016. He was born in Ireland but took British citizenship in later life. He was undoubtedly GB's greatest radio broadcaster, a firm favourite with millions along with his TV appearances and hosting of numerous game shows, talk shows etc.

His Radio 2 morning show was remarkably risqué, I doubt if anyone could get away with it today. Here's an example from a Christmas broadcast, one of the funniest things you'll ever hear and pure Terry.

Guess where the capitol city of murder is in Britain. London? 'fraid not. Per head of population it's actually a small town in Lincolnshire....Boston. It's once again been brought in to the headlines following the stabbing to death of a 9 year old girl openly in the street. Although nobody will say it, this is a revenge attack between competing Eastern European gangs, which infest the town and are without doubt the most ruthless, merciless pigs at the trough. Before this influx of scum Boston was virtually crime free, a place where most people knew most people. Let's face it, a few dead kids is a small price to pay for that nirvana of the left, the multicultural society. These crime gangs operate a dozen lucrative forms of crime, from drugs to car theft and export to protection rackets and as far as the locals are concerned, do so with little interference from the police.

A Cincinnati police officer caught on tape saying how much she hates F----ing N-----s is blaming her use of the racial slur on cultural influences. She admits she repeatedly used the N word after a black pedestrian gave her the finger, but says she was "desensitized by music & hearing people talk on the street." So its the desensitized defense..................I like it.

Judging by the dead girl's name she's from Lithuania or thereabouts. The killer hasn't been named, but it's likely he's from the same part of eastern Europe.

Boston and Lincolnshire in general have a large immigrant population who come here in the summer for the fruit harvest, many stay of course. For all the talk of "too many foreigners" farmers are complaining that since Brexit there now aren't enough to pick the crops!

The Brexit bonus Boris trumpeted so much hasn't quite materialized yet.

Country's Tom? Poland, Romania, Albania, Slovenia and Belarus. When my niece's family's two new cars got stolen, the police told them they would most likely end up in either Ireland, where they would undergo an extensive reworking to become legal there, or Romania, where they would do nothing and drive about without even changing the English number plates, as the police don't give a shite.

Because we don't have a real Brexit. We are still governed by a myriad of EU rules and regulations, which Truss has said she'd dump if she becomes PM. I've heard it all before, so we'll see.
