His mother died when he was young & he was raised by his two grandmothers, one being a full blood Kaw Indian. A poor student he never finished high school but went on to pass the Kansas Bar exam & became an attorney. Affable & a good speaker he went into politics at the local, state, & national levels never really accomplishing anything. He was then elected Vice-President under Herbert Hoover in 1928. Hoover recognized Curtiss' talents & gave him absolutely nothing to do, at which he excelled. He was known as Vice-President "Throttlebottom" which came to mean a totally inept politician..........Hmm, seems familiar these days. |

I had to get the dog out at 6 in the morning and kept spraying her with water for the rest of the day. Problem is the heat of the tarmac, it would burn her feet and considering Vets charge you £50 just to say hello to them, I thought I'd pass on the privilege. If it was hot where you were, think of me travelling east to the hottest part of the country on Tuesday! It got up to 104.5F in Lincolnshire, I was in Norfolk. I can't put into words the SHEER HELL of those two days (Monday and Tuesday). |

This means the hottest hours are not at noon, but in the middle of the afternoon. These temperatures catch people outside the house, after work. Bedtime comes & it is still hot. By turning back the clocks this could alleviate much of the problem. |
