Re:Anniversaries for 2024 - The Arts Date Posted:2024-12-19 09:00:16Copy HTML 19 December 1851 - Joseph Mallord William Turner died. J M W Turner the great English landscape artist exhibiting his first piece at the Royal Academy when he was just 15. His travels in Europe and the thousands of sketches he brought back allowed him to create many and varied works with the sea being an especial favourite. Increasingly reclusive in old age he left hundreds of works to the nation upon his death aged 76. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Anniversaries for 2024 - The Arts Date Posted:2024-12-20 08:52:22Copy HTML 20 December 1999 - Clarence Eugene "Hank" Snow died. I suppose this counts as The Arts. A Country and Western singer apparently, I know nothing about him, he's only here because Tom has mentioned him before and I can't find anything better. It's the anniversary of John Steinbeck's death in 1968, but I covered him on his birthday in February and I don't do the same person twice, so Hank Snow gets the nod.

Now that you are including country artists, you missed the birthday of Janie Fricke, Mark. Country singer-songwriter whose hit song, "It ain't easy being easy" is one of my favorites. |

Re:Anniversaries for 2024 - The Arts Date Posted:2024-12-20 12:41:34Copy HTML I'm sure most would agree that J M W Turner takes precedence over some C&W singer we've never heard of. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:Anniversaries for 2024 - The Arts Date Posted:2024-12-20 01:09:40Copy HTML Yes, some reclusive guy who painted trees, bushes, water, & was a bit odd. That goes with being an "artist," eh? Like the great country singer Del Reeves said in a song............."I guess I've arrived, this must be the bottom." |
