Re:Don't Start Another Date Posted:2024-11-08 07:45:01Copy HTML A bit is.............a bit of a stretch. Well that weirdo is the richest man on the planet, gained by products that have changed the very world we live in. He's sending spaceships up for fun, the whole communications satellite industry depends on his brilliance. Did you see his last space flight? Where the rocket returned to earth and was captured by the very tower that launched it? Next time his team are not only attempting to capture the booster but the starship itself. He's established a team that has revolutionised the space industry. He's shaved billions off the cost of space flight. America is one lucky country getting him, I wish we had captured him first. Genius is an overused term these days but if anybody deserves the title, it's Elon Musk Perhaps eccentric if a better fit? It is used quite often describing the gifted. Elon is a genius. Space X has developed the technology to catch the rocket. The Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for October 23, 2024 is at https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap241023.html .This is a short video, that shows it. This technology will save millions of dollars. It is a shame that no government develop it. "I felt exactly how you would feel if you were getting ready to launch & knew you were sitting on top of 2 million parts.....all built by the lowest bidder" John Glenn This is very true. Rockets, star ships, etc. should be built with the best materials. |

Re:Don't Start Another Date Posted:2024-11-09 01:19:10Copy HTML May I ask members to indulge me in a little experiment? Search, either on the web or in books, for the name of the first US citizen killed in World War I. My expectation is that you'll come up with one of two names. See if it matches mine. Remember this from July? Well, I can now reveal that I'm about to rewrite history. I've come across an American from Texas who joined the British Merchant Navy in 1914 and who disappeared when his ship was lost without trace in the North Sea in February 1915. As far as I can see he was the first US citizen to be killed in the war, seven weeks before Leon Thrasher who is the person most accounts name and two weeks before Edward Stone who is the other more obscure person some accounts give. I've been in touch with a genealogical society in Hopkins County, Texas and sent them what I know, they've published it in their quarterly online magazine in the hope that members can fill in the missing details of his life before he left for England aged 25. He came from a tiny obscure place - Miller Grove which I have now put on the map, I expect to be carried in triumph through the streets of Miller Grove (there is more than one street, right?) should I ever go there, no need for me to be made an honorary Texan as I'm one already. The magazine is only available to members of the Society or contributors, but I can send my piece to your personal email if anyone would like to see it. |

Re:Don't Start Another Date Posted:2024-11-10 04:49:58Copy HTML Is it time to bring back the military Draft? Only this time a bit different from those of the past.
1) Males only for combat duty, women if they volunteer.
2) Active duty should be short, 18 months.
3) Followed by part-time Reserve or National Guard. Used in homeland security duty such as airport security.
4) Easy options for alternate civilian service for conscientious objectors, or those who would be poor military performers.
5) Long term enlistees would receive a much higher compensation & short-term draftees a much more modest pay.
With larger active & reserve military forces, & expanded forms of civilian service, only about half of all eligible U.S. males would be needed to serve. To make the new Draft more equitable, we start drafting at the top of the social ladder. Who better to serve a short term for their country than those benefiting most from living here? When the children of the nation's elite perform military service, our national interests will be taken much more seriously. If serving one's country becomes commonplace among the privileged, the future leaders of our civilian life will have a formative citizenship experience at a critical age.

Re:Don't Start Another Date Posted:2024-11-11 10:28:32Copy HTML I think that if we were to construct a law here that made it compulsory for Illegal immigrants to serve 2 years in the armed forces, to give these wonderful people a chance to prove their allegiance to their new nation, illegal immigration would collapse in 48 hours. |

Re:Don't Start Another Date Posted:2024-11-13 01:56:08Copy HTML Throughout the 20th century, Marxism had brought nothing but misery to millions of people via violent revolutions. Since violence didn't seem to work anymore, the Marxists shifted to universities & professors to preach to young minds. Rather than throwing bombs & mobbing buildings, left-wing groups would get government, university, or journalist jobs & use these perches to spread their poison. Their half-baked insane ideas morphed into what we now know as "Wokeism." A perfect fit for a generation who'd been raised by helicopter parents to believe that the world was a dangerous, unfair place, & they were special little angels who should never face any adversity for any reason.
